ARTIST STATEMENT
An ultimate activation of the self requires the examination of inner tensions between the self and the other (in this case the work).
It is with introspection that we can position ourselves in a body of space and realize that rarely does one understand its own presence so clearly than when it is faced with a “thing” A work that perhaps stems from the validation of the self in the presence of others: conducting behavior within space, screaming at the viewers mass. An understanding that is formed through no particular words but pointed movement. How does one share space with objects that dictate our self reflections?
Perhaps we share the tension of self actualization which becomes characterized by the very idea of Object Sculpture.
BIO
Toronto based contemporary artist Marina Diolaiti has been investigating spatial awareness and relations of shape and form for what seems to be a greater understanding of art in space. Through sculpture as well as installation based work, Diolaiti has expanded on these concepts in search of artistic resolutions. Exploring themes of reflection beyond representations of reality, her practice often results in the reduction of the human through the use of man made materials. Her work often resonates with ideas founded in early minimalism and those of modern conceptual art aiming to urge a self reflection within viewers.
